Le Mazeau

a beautiful setting at the heart of the Marais Poitevin

From the end of the 18th century this house has been at the heart of the hamlet, experiencing the changing life in the Marais. We have worked with the owners to bring light and a new life to the house.

We have created a large living space by bringing two smaller rooms together, replacing the floor with ash floorboards; built a staircase to provide access to the first floor where we have developed 4 bedrooms and a bathroom. The kitchen has been enhanced with a beautiful terra cotta floor.

concept construction managed and resourced this project from start to finish, completing within the agreed budget and timescale.

chateau renovation in France

helping to bring a 16th century building back to life

This 16th century chateau has been restored to a provide a home and modern apartments for rental.

concept construction worked with the owner to bring life and character into the building, reroofed an outbuilding, and converted an old grange into modern apartments for rental.

a new house in an old shell

You couldn’t find a more complete renovation than this; some say it is actually a new build – the only original parts are some of the walls – and even these have been rebuilt in part. concept construction installed a complete new double hipped roof with hand-crafted traditional oak trusses.

The result is a house full of light and character – large windows, terra cotta floors downstairs and ash upstairs; oak beams and oak furnishings throughout; completely new services had to be brought to the site. The exposed stone downstairs provides a superb contrast with the oak furnishings and the wood burning fires; the plasterboard with oak stud work upstairs provides a warm feeling for the bedrooms and brings out the character of the oak trusses.
